This week, the Camden County Police Department proudly recognizes the outstanding work of four individuals – Officers Justin Stippick, Eric Retamar, Timothy Jordan and John Matthews.
Officer Retamar joined the Camden County Police Department in 2013, while Officer Stippick joined in 2014 and Officers Matthews and Jordan joined in 2015. All four officers are assigned to the department’s Neighborhood Response Team.
On Aug. 5, Officers Stippick, Retamar, Jordan and Matthews were on directed patrol addressing quality of life issues when they observed two suspects committing a violation on the 1100 block of Lansdowne Avenue, one of whom was also violating a drug offender restraining order by being in this area.
The officers engaged the suspects and, upon investigation, found that the second suspect had numerous outstanding warrants totaling more than $5,000 and was in possession of 36 bags of crack cocaine. This suspect was placed under arrest and charged with numerous felony offenses including drug distribution. Upon further investigation, the officers located a loaded Beretta PX4 Storm handgun across the street.
This suspect was subsequently charged Monday with federal drug distribution offenses, along with seven other suspects, as part of a joint investigation by multiple agencies including the FBI, New Jersey State Police, Camden County Police Department and Camden County Prosecutor’s Office working as part of the FBI’s South Jersey Violent Offender and Gang Task Force.
“Because they were proactive in addressing an issue, these officers were able to remove a dangerous suspect from the community along with narcotics and a loaded gun,” said Lt. Zsakhiem James.
For their excellent police work, we honor Officers Stippick, Retamar, Jordan and Matthews as the Camden County Police Department Officers of the Week. Also nominated were Officers George Lewis and Maria Martinez and Officer Cabria Davis.
