(Camden, NJ) – In a continuing collaborative effort with the state Attorney General’s Office that started with Operation Inferno, the Camden County Police Department, HIDTA Narco-Gang Unit and the New Jersey State Police made a significant narcotics arrest in the city. This morning a search warrant was executed that led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of two loaded weapons and a large quantity of heroin and cocaine.
Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson focused attention on the narcotics trade and its direct and indirect impact on the community.
“Drug gangs do more than just ruin inner city neighborhoods as the poison they push reaches even the wealthiest communities.” Thomson said. “Too many people are dying from the violence associated with drugs and by the narcotics themselves as overdoses continue to rise. We will continue our coordinated effort from every level of law enforcement to protect neighborhoods and the people of Camden and the region.”
The following weapons and drugs were recovered during the search warrant execution at 1106 Baring Street:
- A loaded Hi-Point 9mm handgun
- A loaded 357 Taurus handgun
- A total of 1,050 bags of heroin
- Just over 400 grams of unpackaged cocaine
Two suspects were arrested during the execution of this warrant:
Jamaal Bailey, 36, of Camden, was charged with two counts of Possession of a Weapon During a CDS offense, two counts of Possession of a CDS With Intent to Distribute, Possession With Intent to Distribute Within 1,000 Feet of a School, Conspiracy, Maintaining a CDS Production Facility and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons. The Certain Persons charge is based on a previous drug conviction.
Javon Bailey, 26, of Camden, was charged with two counts of Possession of a CDS, two counts of Possession With Intent to Distribute, Conspiracy and Possession of an Imitation CDS With Intent to Distribute.
Both suspects have been remanded to the Camden County Jail pending their detention hearings.
The Camden County Police Department and New Jersey State Police want to thank the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in today’s arrest.
“We’re absolutely committed to these collaborative law enforcement efforts in Camden aimed at taking down the most prolific drug dealers, who are fueling gun violence in the city as well as the epidemic of heroin addiction that is ravaging communities throughout South Jersey,” said Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino. “These arrests will continue, as will our many other efforts to prevent opiate addiction and rescue those who have fallen into its deadly grasp.”
“Violence and narcotics distribution go hand-in-hand, which is why weapons are so often seized when we take down drug-dealers,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “I commend the great work by the State Police detectives and the investigators from our partnering agencies.”
The case is being prosecuted by the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice.
This operation is part of a continuing effort by all of the law enforcement partners working in the city to target and eliminate drug distribution networks. In November, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office working with federal, state, county and local partners including the Camden County Police Department took down a major drug distribution network operating in Camden and North Philadelphia and charged 15 individuals as part of Operation Inferno.
